Mexico: 15,000-year-old giant animal remains found at airport construction site

Remains of Mammoths have been found at the construction site of the Mexico Airport, which is going to be built in Mexico City. They also contain remains of pre-Hispanic era humans.

Archaeologists in Mexico have found the remains of more than 60 giant animals thousands of years old. The airport is to be built where these remains are found in Mexico City. Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) said that where the Felipe Angelis International Airport is to be built, the bones of animals found at the construction site are some 15,000 years old.

The INAH team has been digging there since April last year to get the remains of the Pleistocene (anti months). The team reported in December that they had found animal bones at the old Santa Lucia Air Base. All remains are reported to be of Colombian animal species. Apart from elephants, remains of camels and horses have also been found. Remnants of pre-Hispanic era humans have also been found and artifacts have also been found.

Pedro Francisco Sanchez Nava, INAH co-ordinator, according to Akhabar of Mexico, said, "The main challenge is that the remains of animals are more than we have believed." INAH says that this discovery has not been done for the purpose that we have to stop the construction of the airport. However, it has had little impact in the construction work.
